Description The Appraisal Technician performs a wide range of activities to support the Real Property Appraisers including, but not limited to, on-site visits for new construction/addition permits or agricultural use applications; creates and makes corrections to the real property information in the Assessor's office tax system; Provides customer services to taxpayers.
Examples of Duties - Processes new construction/addition permits, including mobile homes; creates and updates corrections to the real property information in computer-assisted mass appraisal system including addresses, asset inventory, or other specifications, and research appraisal information contained in databases.
- Field inspection of agricultural use applications to establish qualification for the exemption.
- Registers new mobile homes; sketches mobile homes into appraisal system; transfers ownership or location information for mobile homes as needed.
- Assists and advises the Building Codes and Inspection Department with creating advance mobile home bills for moving and demolition permits.
- Advises and assists with the retirement of title for mobile homes
- Organizes building permits from county and municipalities; creates final and CO'd building permit packets for staff appraisers.
- Operates a vehicle and job-related equipment.
- Assist in site visiting real property locations after issuing a Certificate of Occupancy or Final inspection from the Building and Codes Department.
- Assist in site visiting the real property requested by staff appraisers to validate inventory to generate accurate appraisals.
- Assist in visiting real property locations after the registration or relocation of a mobile/manufactured home.
- Provides customer assistance to citizens, title researchers, the public, other employees, other departments, municipalities, and other interested parties regarding appraisal processes, land use, and general tax inquiries.
- Prepares and maintains various operational records related to day-to-day appraisal activities.
- Prints up reports and permits from the DHEC website for any new dock permits.
- Communicate and assist with job-related duties that involve Stormwater Department, Treasurer, Building Codes, Hilton Head Island Service Fee, and Assessor's Office.
- Inspects properties requiring damage assessments due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, etc.
- Assists the department with related administrative duties.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- One (1) year of related real property work experience and providing office support.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Supplemental Information All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
